Survivor with a Spinning Twist

It seems CryptoLogic keeps coming up with some great gimmicks, now I am mostly a sports betting kind of guy but I do take a few spins of online slots once-in-a-while.

InterCasino, which is the world’s first online casino and has survived the tumultuous changes in the Internet casino industry, has come out with an amazing Survivor promotion for its players this November. The concept is simple. The sturdiest of the online slots players will be the survivors and win the prizes, the others will fall on the wayside.

The grueling competition begins on Mondays. Players have to wager at least $500 on Mondays and Tuesdays on any of the online slot games on offer at InterCasino and at the same time make a profit in order to survive and continue in the competition. On Wednesdays the survivors will be categorized into three different groups depending on the amount that they have wagered during the two earlier days. Players who have just crossed the minimum requirement of $500 will be in the Bronze band. Players who have wagered at least $1,250 will be in the Silver band. And players who have wagered more than $4,000 on Mondays and Tuesdays will be in the Gold band.

On Wednesdays and Thursdays players have to wager at least the qualifying amount for their band. Not only that they have to ensure that they continue to make a profit on both days. Only those players who fulfill both these above conditions will qualify for the big survivor event on Friday. On Friday the survivors have to again wager the minimum amount stipulated in their qualifying bands and also have to again register a profit. Those who have managed to survive all through meeting all the eligibility criteria will win the jackpots. At InterCasino, prizes are being awarded for players who have failed to survive as well. Therefore there is absolutely no harm in trying because if players cannot win the big one, they are very likely to win one of the other prizes.

I have never really won anything with online slots so I am not holding my breath on this one.

San Diego man received a big gift from Viejas Casino just in time for the holidays. George Alemon, Jr. won the big prize of $10,000 on December 15, concluding the “Play to Shop” promotion at Viejas Casino.

Alemon, a resident of Chula Vista, was the lucky winner of $5,000 cash and a $5,000 shopping spree at the Viejas Outlet Center. Alemon and his wife were shocked to be chosen as the winner for the drawing that won them the $10,000 prize.

The Alemons, who have been playing at Viejas Casino since it opened, were not the only lucky recipients of the jackpot. Vera Alemon decided to take part of their winnings to purchase toys at KB Toys and donate them to the Salvation Army.

“I am a firm believer that you must give to receive,” said Vera Alemon. “We have always been givers, and believe that if God grants us the opportunity to give back, then we should, especially to the children around the holidays.”

To be eligible to win the “Play to Shop” jackpot, V Club cardholders won electronic entries into the drawing for every 15 Base V Points they earned.

“Being able to make others happy and give away money is the best part of our jobs,” said Viejas Casino Marketing Director Rikki Tanenbaum. “But what makes this time really exceptional is the generosity of the Alemons. We love our players.”

The Alemons were able to complete their holiday shopping at the Viejas Outlet Center with the remainder of the shopping spree, and made house payments with the cash, making the holidays a little easier on everyone.  It is stories like this that help keep my faith in the goodness of the human race.

Badugi Now Available on Pokerstars

PokerStars are now offering Badugi  in both tournament and sit n’ go format.  Badugi is an ancient Asian game quite similar to lowball where players aim to make a hand consisting of four low cards with all different suits; this is called a ‘Badugi’.

This means that a hand such as As-2c-3d-4h is the best hand in Badugi.  There are three drawing rounds, much like triple draw poker.

I am curious to see how this new game fares at PokerStars since Doylesroom actually removed this game in the past because of lack of interest.

Cheating Scandal to Hit your TV

The cheating scandal that just won’t die, long-running American television investigative news programme 60 Minutes is preparing to air its long-anticipated story on the Ultimate Bet and Absolute Poker cheating scandals on October 26. According to numerous reports, the CBS television programme has joined forces with a major newspaper for the story on the cheating, which began in 2005 with Ultimate Bet, an online casino operator licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission. The regulator issued a report late last month that identified the chief perpetrator as former World Series of Poker champion and former Ultimate Bet executive Russell Hamilton. “The Commission found clear and convincing evidence to support the conclusion that, between the approximate dates of May 2004 to January 2008, Russell Hamilton, an individual associated with Ultimate Bet’s affiliate program, was the main person responsible for and benefiting from the multiple cheating incidents,” read the report. “Furthermore, the Kahnawake Gaming Commission is currently in contact with the appropriate law enforcement agencies and intends to fully cooperate in the prosecution of all individuals involved in the Ultimate Bet cheating incidents.”

The statement claimed that over $60 million in fraudulent play was involved and ruled that all affected players must be refunded while Ultimate Bet was fined $1.5 million. 60 Minutes has been one of the most popular programmes on American television for almost 40 years and its expose on the scandal will air nationally just nine days before the US Presidential election on November 4.  I really enjoy the investigative reporting of 60 Minutes so I will be watching this for sure!  There are constant cries that online poker is rigged but I have never found any evidence to suggest this is the case.  In fact I think it would be easier to rig things like sports betting, so why bother with online poker.

As the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) comes back to London we are seeing a growing number or Europeans pushing their US counterparts off the tables. While competition has never been higher it seems that the Europeans are making use of the many online satellite programs which allow cheap entry routes into WSOPE. As the US players are still officially banned from using the online entry option this has seen more and more Europeans around the table.

Even though there is a bill going through Congress to bring online poker back to the US it is still some way off and the Europeans are certainly making the most of this. Interestingly, the increased exposure of the Europeans is starting to increase the skill and experiences of this particular group of poker players. By the time the US does come back online there is every chance that the European game will have moved to a new level and should offer more of a challenge to their US counterparts.

Slowly but surely we are seeing European poker stars emerge from the shadows, determined to make up for lost time and challenge the US market. While offline poker is still very popular in the US there is nothing like tough competition to bring out the best in a player. I am really looking forward to the US/UK rivalry.

The Mega Mountain Jackpot prize at Table Mountain Casino in Friant, California has been cleared out by a local player. In a statement last month, the venue said that a slots enthusiast called Lorena, who hails from Madera, was the lucky winner of a five-figure sum.

Lorena picked up more than $30,000 (£15,000) while playing the slot machines at the west coast gambling destination. She said that the victory was unexpected, claiming that she “never thought” she would win a prize as big as that. Table Mountain Casino offers guests a variety of gambling options, including poker tables and bingo facilities.

Popular table games such as baccarat and blackjack can also be accessed by visitors to the resort. Reflecting on events this week, John Mayewski, president and chief executive officer of the casino, said: “All of us here at Table Mountain Casino congratulate Lorena on her massive cash winnings of $30,737.”  That is a pretty sweet jackpot!

More Trouble for Boss Media

The ruling is in and one of online gambling’s most established software providers, Boss Media, has had its assets seized in Malta.  PokerTrillion have been successful in its application to enforce the seizure of the servers from their previous network providers, Boss Media. According to a press release from Poker Trillion, Boss Media will not be able to continue commercial activity or appeal as of September 18th.

According to 4Flush.com, back in April, a judge called for the freezing of all Boss Media assets as Poker Trillion had declared a €45million lawsuit against the Boss Poker Network and online payment processor, WebDollar. Poker Trillion stated then that the lawsuit was “for alleged fraudulent and potential criminal activities of various personnel and/or the management of Boss Media, or their associated companies in various jurisdictions including but not restricted to, Sweden and Malta.” The judgment announced yesterday is just one in a string of successful applications made by Trillion Ltd. in the Malta courts.

PokerTrillion C.E.O Andy Pyrah explained, “Today’s decision will in effect bring down Boss Media’s operation in their licensed jurisdiction of Malta on September 18, and any partner still on the Boss (IPN) Poker Network at this stage will see their service closed down too. It should also be noted that despite appeals from Boss Media, we’ve been successful in every one of our applications that we’ve filed with the courts in Malta and this includes having our initial garnishee order increased from €5million to €20million earlier this month, this in turn means that there is now a €20million freezing order on all Boss Media’s assets within this jurisdiction, and in accordance with European law we will be applying for this to be executed all over Europe”. This opens a whole new can-of-worms in so far as difficulties for Boss.

Hi and welcome to my online casino gambling blog.  Here is where I spread my knowledge and secrets about online gambling success that I have built up over the past 8 years.  My online poker winnings stand at $4,900, which is not that much but I only play micro and small stakes sit n’ go’s and tourneys.  The very first lesson you should learn about online gambling is that playing for the ‘joy’ of it is great but you should always try and win or else you will quickly become a negative earning player and in the long-run that will depress you.
